There has been so much in the news recently about how plastic is destroying our planet and I urge everyone to watch a plastic ocean to see for yourself how plastic is completely destroying our oceans.
If you read my post on Tetra Pak then you will know how much I am into recycling, but I also try and avoid single use plastic as much as I can too.
One of the first things I did when starting to change my unsustainable habits was invest in a reusable coffee cup and water bottle.
Scarily 2.5 billion coffee cups are thrown away in the UK every year and only 10% of coffee cups are recycled. Even worse is plastic bottles with a million plastic bottles being bought around the world every minute! With that in mind enough plastic is thrown away each year to circle the earth four times and eight million metric tonnes of that plastic enter our oceans!
Those facts alone was enough to make me purchase a reusable coffee cup and water bottle. Think what a difference to the oceans and landfill we would make if we all stopped using takeaway coffee cups and plastic water bottles?
Not only will you be helping save the planet with these two things you also save money. Neither cost a lot and most places give you money off your coffee when using a reusable cup. Plus think how much money you would save if you stopped buying bottled water?
For me it is a no brainer and I urge everyone who is reading this to really think about how much single use plastic they use and how they could reduce it.
